Português: A relatora especial das Nações Unidas, Tendayi Achiume, afirmou que muitos políticos e partidos constantemente aproveitam o descontentamento econômico e os medos relacionados à segurança pública para promover ideologias racistas e xenofóbicas contra estrangeiros, povos indígenas e minorias sociais.
No relatório apresentado ao Conselho de Segurança, Achiume chama alguns Estados e atores dentro do Sistema das Nações Unidas de “corajosos” por terem condenado publicamente a xenofobia. “No entanto, na maioria dos casos de racismo, nacionalismo étnico e xenofobia, muitos Estados permanecem em silêncio”, criticou a especialista, acrescentando que o silêncio de alguns países equivale à cumplicidade.
