South Australian Railways narrow-gauge T class locomotive no. 180 with its tender, as newly built. The matte "photographic grey" paint scheme shows it is a temporary builder's (or works) photograph. At a time when photography did not manifest a full range of greys, the scheme was commonly applied to a sample of a new locomotive class to make its features more apparent than would be visible with the gloss black scheme of locomotives in operation.
