Description
English: This photo was taken by physicist Ernst Mach in 1888 in Prague, using Schlieren Photography on a 5 mm-diameter negative. It depicts the waves around a supersonic brass bullet. Note that according to An Album of Fluid Motion (p. 2), the two white vertical lines are artifacts that are not related with the airflow.
Français : Cette photo a été prise par le physicien Ernst Mach en 1888 à Prague, à l’aide de la technique de photographie Schlieren (strioscopie) sur un film négatif de 5mm de diamètre. Elle montre les ondes de choc autour d’une balle supersonique en laiton.
