Summary

Description
English: Drawing of monument of Sir William Weston (c.1470-1540), the last Prior of the Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem in England. Monumental brasses missing, only matrices showing shape of kneeling figures with speech scrolls. Arms of Weston quartering Camell, with crest of Weston above A Saracen's head, atop what is supposedly a Prior's cap. The Latin motto of the Priors should apparently be Sane Boro not Any Boro as drawn (Cromwell, 1828). Formerly against the north wall of the chancel of the Priory Church of St John's Priory, Clerknwell, Middlesex, as described by John Weever in his Funeral Monuments, first published 1631, p.213[1]. Mostly lost, before 1828, except the cadaver effigy which survives today in the crypt, the only surviving part of the church.
