De Sint was ook een ‘hylicksman’. Niet zozeer een goedheiligman als wel een huwelijksmakelaar. Jonge mensen gaven hun geliefde met Sint-Nicolaas een speculaaspop. Bij de bakker kon je de koeken beplakken met bladgoud en zilver.
