فارسی: کهکشان فرفره (یا Messier 101 یا NGC 5457) یک کهکشان مارپیچی در صورت فلکی خرس بزرگ و در فاصله ۲۷ میلیون سال نوری از زمین است. این کهکشان توسط پی‌یر مچاین و در ۲۷ مارس ۱۷۸۱ کشف شد و شارل مسیه بعداً به فهرست اجرام مسیه افزود.
العربية: مسييه المجرَّة 101 (M101، المعروفة أيضًا باسم NGC 5457 ويُطلق عليها أيضًا مجرَّة دولاب الهواء) تقع في شمال عُنقود القُطبيَّة، في مجموعة الدُب الأكبر، على مسافةٍ تُقدَّر بِحوالي 21 مليون سنة ضوئيَّة عن الأرض. تُعتبرُ هذه الصُورة إحدى أكبر الصُور المُلتقطة من قبل مقراب هابل الفضائي لِأي مجرَّةٍ حلزونيَّة وأكثرها تفصيلًا. هذه الصُورة مُكوَّنة من 51 individual تعرُّضًا ضوئيًّا من قِبل مقراب هابل، بالإضافة إلى عناصر مُستندة على صُورٍ أُخرى تمَّ التقاطها من قبل مقرابات وآلاتٍ أرضيَّة. هُناك نسخةٌ أُخرى عالية الجُودة ذات 15852 x 12392 عنصورة (پكسل) بِنمط jpg وtiff، انظر الوصلة في الأسفل.
English: The galaxy Messier 101 (M101, also known as NGC 5457 and also nicknamed the Pinwheel Galaxy) lies in the northern circumpolar constellation, Ursa Major (The Great Bear), at a distance of about 21 million light-years from Earth. This is one of the largest and most detailed photos of a spiral galaxy that have been released from Hubble. The galaxy's portrait is actually composed of 51 individual Hubble exposures, in addition to elements from images from ground-based photos. A high-res version with 15852 x 12392 pixels in jpg and tiff format is also available, see below for url.
