Deutsch: Ludwig Prandtl (1875-1953) vor dem Wasserversuchskanal in Hannover im Jahr 1904. Das Wasser in der 1,50 Meter langen Wanne wurde mit einem Schaufelrad händisch in Umlauf versetzt. Umlenkschaufeln und Siebe sorgten für hinreichend wirbelfreie Strömung.
English: Ludwig Prandtl (1875-1953) in front of his research water channel in Hannover in 1904. The water was propelled with a hand-operated paddlewheel along the 1.5-meter long duct. A series of blades and meshes streamlined the flow adequately.
