Hot air balloon races at the 1900 Paris World Fair. These events would take place in Vincennes, in the outskirts of Paris. There was an altitude contest which was won by Mr. Balsan - who reached an altitude of 8,357 meters in his hot air balloon. The same Mr. Balsan became famous for winning a contest involving both distance and duration; it took him 35 hours to reach Russia. |

Français : Légende: L'aérostation fut, cette année, le sport à la mode, et en une seule journée on vit jusqu'à trente ballons partir du parc aérostatique. Les concours les plus fameux furent ceux du 23 septembre, concours d'altitude, où M. Balsan atteignit 8357 mètres, et celui du 9 octobre (concours de distance et de durée) où M. le comte Henri de La Vaulx et M. Balsan descendirent en Russie, le premier après 35 heures 45 m., et 1925 kilomètres de voyage et le second après 27 heures 25 m. et 1360 kilomètres. |
