| Description |
English: Kiritimati Sandpiper (Prosobonia cancellata cancellata), the nominate subspecies of the Tuamotu Sandpiper. This upper image shows a specimen of the Kiritimati population which is extinct since some time in the first half of the 19th century or possibly later due to introduced predators. The lower image shows the Tahitian Sandpiper, Prosobonia leucoptera. This bird is an extinct member of the large wader family Scolopacidae that was endemic to Tahiti in French Polynesia. |
