There is currently a great suffering occurring in these lands -- in Oaxaca. The mainstream media is telling lies. Major stations, major newspapers, the idiot that is Vicente Fox is claiming that the city of Oaxaca is being seized without bloodshed. There have already been three deaths; one of them a twelve year old boy. How can this government sustain itself with its shamefulness; that in order to govern -- in order to maintain a criminal like Ulises Oritz, the governor of Oaxaca -- it has to kill a twelve year old child. And how can we be in Chihuahua, or in any part of the country, or in any part of the world, and watch as a child is murdered by the Federal Police, and remain silent or do nothing -- look in another direction? Any honest woman or man with any nobility must do something. Oaxaca is being left alone, and we come here to Chihuahua to say that she is not alone; that we, wherever we may be will do something for her. We have consulted with our indigenous chiefs in the southeastern mountains of Mexico, and we have made a decision which I will communicate to you right now:

Official notice of the Revolutionary Indigenous Clandestine Committee (CCRI) military command of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation.
Mexico. 30th of October, 2006.

To the people of Mexico; to the people of the world; to all the others in Mexico and north of the Rio Grande; to the international six; companions, sisters, and brothers:

As it is of public knowledge, yesterday 29th of October 2006, the Federal forces of the government of Vicente Fox attacked the town of Oaxaca and its worthier representative: Popular Assembly of the Peoples of Oaxaca (APPO). As of today, the Federal Police forces have assassinated at least three people (among them, a minor), left many people hurt (among them several Oaxacan women), and many were arrested and transferred illegally to military prisons. Added to all this are those who were killed, arrested, and disappeared prior to Federal intervention at the inception of this mobilization demanding the resignation of Ulises Oritz from the Oaxacan government. This attack's only objective is to maintain Ulises Oritz in power and to destroy the popular organization of those from below in Oaxaca. The people of Oaxaca are in resistance. No honest person can remain silent or immobile while an entire community, mainly indigenous, is assassinated, beaten, and jailed. We, the Zapatistas, will not be quiet, and we will mobilize in support of the people of Oaxaca -- our comrades in this struggle. The sixth commission of the EZLN has already consulted Zapatista Command, and the following has been decided:

  • First, throughout the 1st of November of 2006, all of the highways and roads that cross the territories where the EZLN maintains presence in the southeast state of Chiapas will be closed. Consequently, we exhort that everyone abstaining from traveling in Chiapas' highways that day and take the necessary precautions for it.
  • Second, through their sixth commission, the EZLN has begun to initiate contact and consultations with other political and social organizations, as well as with groups, collectives, and people of the other campaign to initiate days of solidarity with Oaxaca, and to summon joint actions to all of Mexico from below to organize a national strike on the 20th of November.
  • Third, the EZLN makes a call to the other campaign in Mexico and to the north of the Rio Grande so that the 1st of November 2006, it is mobilized wherever possible the closing completely, partially, intermittently, real or symbolically, the streets, roads, highways, tollbooths, stations, airports, and any mass-media.
  • Fourth, we the Zapatistas are sending one message, which we will continue to send to the people of Oaxaca: You are not alone. Ulises Oritz out of Oaxaca. Immediate expulsion of Federal forces occupying Oaxacan territory. Immediate and unconditional freedom to all the detained. Cancellation of all the orders of apprehension. Punishment to the assassins. Justice, freedom, democracy from the north of Mexico by the Revolutionary Indigenous Clandestine Committee (CCRI) military command of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation

by the sixth commission of the EZLN insurgent Subcomandante Marcos, Mexico, October of 2006.
