Summary

[edit]

The following photograph was obtained from the Motorsports Hall of Fame Biography on Ralph DePalma at http://www.rumbledrome.com/depalma.html. I hold the photograph to be public domain due to it being taken more than 75 years ago by Indianapolis newspaper agencies (either the Indianapolis Star or Indianapolis News) on May 30, 1912, during the moments wherein Ralph DePalma and riding mechanic Rupert Jeffkins made their famous-in-motorsport-lore push of the vehicle down the mainstretch at Indianapolis Motor Speedway after coming within roughly three miles of victory. This Mercedes is a 1910 90 hp with overhead valves. The photograph has been seen in numerous documentaries of the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race, and specifically the 1912 race itself, with no legal action being taken against any website, so far as this author knows, in relation to its being used.
