English: Viewed looking southeast at the Clinton (right) and College (left) streets corner in downtown Iowa City, the image presents the Coldren Opera House, with its entrance and lobby at street level facing College (left), and an auditorium venue taking up the second and third levels. Iowa City State Bank occupied the corner room at street level. The Opera House Saloon was located in the easterly storefront in the theater building, with a barber occupying the small storefront along Clinton Street behind (right of) the corner bank space. Erected during 1872, the structure exists today behind a limestone facade as the Savings and Loan Building.

Source
The Johnson County (Iowa) Historical Society archive located in Coralville, Iowa, from a 14-image booklet of photographs prepared prior to 1880 by noted Iowa City photographer T.W. Townsend. It shows no copyright nor publisher data, although it probably was self-published and printed by a local business. An original copy of the booklet was a gift to the historical society by former local audiologist Ted S. Tweed, later of Waunakee near Madison, Wisconsin.
Author
Timothy Wesley Townsend, a productive local photographer during the 1870s-1890s period, whose local three-dimensional stereographic views are a hallmark.
