Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 43-50 cm; Weight: 2.1-4.2 kg; Identification: The upper parts and tail of the brown lemur are gray-brown. They have white cheeks and beard, black muzzle and forehead. underparts are cream-colored; Habitat: Forests; Diet: Herbivore: fruit, leaves, flowers; Reproduction: A single offspring is produced after a gestation period of 120-136 days; Social Structure: Groups are made up of 3-12 lemurs; Behavior: These arboreal creatures are most likely diurnal as well; Status: Threatened: habitat destruction; Interesting Facts: Brown lemurs were most likely introduced to the islands on which they are found by people several hundred years ago. |
