Deutsch: Bildtext Staatliches Museum Schwerin: "Der Bildtyp der tronie, der Ausdrucksstudie, ist in Leiden von Rembrandt und Lievens gemeinsam entwickelt worden. In diesem Werk, das aufgrund des falschen Monogramms lange unter dem Namen Rembrandts lief, sorgt die geschickte Lichtregie dafür, dass die helle Seite des Gesichtes ebenso mit der Wand kontrastiert wie die verschattete. Der nach innen gerichtete Blick des Mannes beherrscht die gesamte Darstellung."
