The Governor General of Canada, Victor Cavendish, 9th Duke of Devonshire, unveiled the Bell Telephone Memorial erected in Bell's honor in Brantford, Ontario's, (The Telephone City) Alexander Graham Bell Gardens grounds as part of the City of Brantford's public parks system. The Bell Homestead had earlier been dedicated in 1910. Bell was the guest of honor at the ceremony. The memorial was commissioned to sculptor W.S. Allward in 1912, and completed in 1917, and paid for by public subscription.
