Summary

Description
English: Advertisement poster for an American pantomime company called Humpty Dumpty, organized by Abbey & Hickey. The pantomime was a British art form with two parts: a highly stylized harlequinade that involved clown characters derived from older Italian forms, and a slapstick, zany musical theatre component based on a fairy tale or folk tale. A December 1879 advertisement for this show bragged that the cast consisted of 125 people.

From a May 4, 1880 advertisement the possible identities of main players can be added:

  • Bottom center, ballerinas: Bonfanti and Minzelli
  • Next row up, men in white (Clowns): Jas. F. Moffit and Robert Frazier ("Clown" is the name of the specific harlequinade character)
  • Between the Clowns, men in bodysuits (Harlequins): J. Raymonde and F. Levantine
  • Women above Harlequins (Columbines): Pauline Baretta and Leonilda Ortori
  • Older men above the Columbines (Pantaloons): W. H. Bartholomew and N. D. Jones
  • Men at top in shorts: possibly the Snow Brothers, acrobats
