The Fender Nate Mendel Precision Bass is a variant of the Fender Precision Bass and a part of the Fender Artist Signature Series. Designed off Foo Fighters’ bassist Nate Mendel’s 1971 Fender Precision Bass, the Nate Mendel Signature features a Road Worn Nitrocellulose Candy Apple Red finish, black pickguard, Rosewood fingerboard, vintage-style butt-adjust truss rod. In addition to Mendel's original specs, the production variant features a Seymour Duncan SPB3 Quarter-Pound pickup, for an aggressive modern sound, and an upgraded high-mass Badass II bridge.[1] The bass has found widespread popularity due to its vintage aesthetics with a mix of modern hardware, it is also relatively affordable, being made at Fender's Ensenada plant in Mexico.[2]

Being a part of Fender's Road Worn series, the bass features a distressed Nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Many players debate that nitrocellulose lacquer as used on vintage Fender instruments provides a better tonal character, as opposed to modern polyurethane finishes.
