Fausta Shakiwa Mosha (born 14 April 1976) is a Tanzanian Medical Doctor and currently serves as a Senior Laboratory Advisor at the WHO hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence in Berlin, Germany. With a broad scope of impact, she has been a key player in public health initiatives globally, covering regions such as Africa, the Middle East, and now at a worldwide capacity.
Early life and education
[edit]Born to Chagga parents in Tanga Region, Tanzania, Mosha commenced her education at Tanga International School and later moved to Azimio Primary school, both in Tanga between the year 1982 and 1988. From the year 1989–1992, she attended Mbeya and Loleza Secondary Schools respectively and later on to Kilakala and Loleza High School where she graduated in 1995.[1] She obtained her Medical Doctor degree from Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences, University of Dar es Salaam, and later pursued higher education in Belgium and Kenya, obtaining a master’s in medical sciences and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the Catholic University of Leuven, and a master's in Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Management from the Jomo Kenyatta University, Kenya.
Career
[edit]Ministry of Health, Tanzania
[edit]Mosha was the Director for the National Health Laboratory Quality Assurance and Training Centre (NHLQATC) at the Ministry of Health in Tanzania since 2011, where she has led numerous national and international health projects. She initiated and directed projects such as the Proficiency Testing for HIV Rapid Tests and Laboratory Quality Management System Strengthening in various African and Caribbean countries.[2]
World Health Organization
[edit]Before her current role, Mosha served as a regional advisor for public health laboratories at WHO EMRO, and as a technical officer, laboratory at WHO AFRO. Her significant contributions include her leadership in the East Africa Public Health Laboratory Networking Project funded by the World Bank and various cooperative agreements with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to strengthen global health security in Africa and the Caribbean.[3]
WHO Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence Hub
[edit]As a Senior Laboratory Advisor at the WHO hub for Pandemic and Epidemic intelligence in Berlin, Germany, Mosha continues to play a critical role in enhancing global strategies for pandemic and epidemic preparedness and response.
Publications
[edit]Mosha's scholarly output includes 49 papers and one book chapter, published in prestigious peer-reviewed journals, reflecting her extensive research and expertise in clinical microbiology and field epidemiology.
Personal life
[edit]She is married to Prof. Eliangiringa Amos Kaale, and together they have three children.
