Eunos Crescent Football Club is a Singaporean association football club based in Eunos, Singapore, that competes in the Singapore National Football League.
History
[edit]The club was established in 1975. In 2006 they won Division Two of the National Football League,[1] and were promoted to Division One. In 2016 they won Division One title. Buoyed by their success, the club has now set itself a much loftier target: To be able to compete in the Singapore Premier League as a professional club in the future however, club presidents, Darwin Jalil admits that Eunos Crescent will need to improve significantly both on and off the pitch in order to be able to compete at Singapore Premier League level.
2017 Season after they win the Division One title
[edit]ECFC are already looking to expand and professionalise their operations. The club are set to form their own under-18 team to take part in various grassroots competitions. In addition, they have also recruited former Woodlands Wellington manager and veteran local football official R. Vengadasalam as their Director of Football. Venga said that he would oversee the club's youth development, as well as helping them source for sponsorships.
Venga added that he has already brought in Lotto as the club kit suppliers and Samy's Curry Restaurant as sponsors. He aims to raise over S$30,000 in sponsorships for ECFC this year. On average, the club operates on an annual budget of around S$60,000. On the pitch, Eunos Crescent has also recruited the likes of ex-national players Indra Sahdan Daud and Precious Emuejeraye to not only boost their playing ranks, but also serve as mentors to the younger players in the team. The club, who are coached by former Woodlands Wellington, Home United and Singapore defender Mohd Mardani, has a policy of including at least five under-21 players in their 25-man squad. In 2012, Eunos Crescent recruited former Tampines Rovers player, Akihiro Nakamura to the club who had appeared 125 times for them on a one-year contract.
Affiliated clubs
[edit]- VVV-Venlo (2017)
In 2017, the club agreed a "long-term" partnership with Dutch club VVV-Venlo. The two clubs agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding when Venlo's head of academy Roger Bongaerts visited Singapore. Under the collaboration, Eunos Crescent will adopt training methods used by Venlo and sending youth players to train in the Netherlands.[2]
