The programme was renamed A2CS in January 2024 with the intent to purchase 1,000 vehicles in a first phase for a budget of €5.2 billion over 14 years, and a lifetime cost estimated at €15 billion.[218] The intention is to replace the Dardo with a new tracked IFV, to use this platform for other roles. Self-propelled howitzer | — | As part of the modernisation of the artillery, the army is looking for a wheeled howitzer to complement its PzH 2000 and replace the FH70.[231][232]
In October 2024, the RCH 155 was selected by the government. A budget request was made to the parliament for a value of €202 million to order a first batch of RCH 155 and set up the logistics, maintenance, training programme, resupply vehicles and recovery vehicles. A requested budget of €1.608 billion for a second batch was also requested to the parliament.[233][234] The base vehicle is unknown, but could include:
