East Hills Academy is a public special education school located in Chula Vista, California, and is part of the Sweetwater Union High School District. The academy provides specialized education for students in grades 7 through 12 with severe learning, emotional, social (autism), and cognitive disabilities.[2]
History
[edit]Established in 2007, East Hills Academy was created to provide a local educational option for students with special needs, particularly those previously placed in private, non-public schools. Its goal is to offer educational services in a less restrictive setting, with access to mainstream programs and extracurricular activities, as the school shares a campus with Olympian High School.[3]
Programs
[edit]East Hills Academy provides three primary educational programs:
- Mild/Moderate Program: Designed for students who are working towards a high school diploma, with classes held in the "Robison Center Wing".
- Moderate Program: Features self-contained classrooms where students follow individualized education programs.
- Moderate/Severe Program: For students aged 13–22, this program is housed in the Hawkins Center Wing, with students earning a Certificate of Completion upon program exit.[2]
The academy also integrates related services such as assistive technology, speech therapy, occupational therapy, counseling, and behavioral support. Class sizes are small, with a maximum of seven students in the moderate/severe program and twelve students in the mild/moderate program.
