Revision to academic biography

[edit]

In response to suggestions from @Cabrils, the article has been revised to meet WP:NPROF requirements due to inclusion of:

1) additional multiple references about Kentsis' scientific research, including explanations of their academic and medical significance;

2) multiple academic awards with their respective citations, illustrating academic impact and leadership;

3) references to professional accomplishments.

In addition, the revised article is hyperlinked to multiple established WP entries that contain additional reference information, such as for example article on ribavirin that explains its uses for cancer therapy, which Kentsis pioneered, article on Thomas Look that describes the discovery of autocrine signaling, which Kentsis made, and so on.

Example WP:THREE best sources that establish notability include:

1) https://www.mskcc.org/research/ski/labs/alex-kentsis

2) https://www.mskcc.org/research-programs/developmental-oncology

3) https://data.the-asci.org/controllers/asci/DirectoryController.php?action=profile&entryId=501533

Appreciate your help, @Cabrils. Neenotchka (talk) 15:55, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Neenotchka, thanks for this.
Firstly, do NOT remove comments on the draft page-- this is a serious violation of Wikipedia policies.
Re: your WP:THREE above:
Unfortunately none of these sources meet WP:THREE because none of them are WP:RS for the purpose of meeting the relevant notability criteria, as defined.
The draft needs to meet WP:NPROF.
Also, as requested in my comment on the draft that you deleted, if you have any connection to the subject, including being the subject (see WP:AUTOBIO) or being paid, you have a conflict of interest that you must declare on your Talk page (to see instructions on how to do this please click the link).
And, again as suggested in my comment that you deleted, it would be helpful if you could please identify with specificity, exactly which criteria you believe the page meets (eg "I think the page now meets WP:NPROF criteria #3, because XXXXX"). Cabrils (talk) 00:25, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Cabrils, let me clarify, and not sure what comment you are referring to that was deleted, as whatever that is was not intentional:
The revised page meets the following WP:NPROF criteria:
a) Criterion 1 because this person's research has had a significant impact on the field, as referenced in the following reliable secondary sources as per WP:RS, reference 7 https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.298.5601.2095b, reference 9 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2950216, reference 14 https://www.mskcc.org/news/analyzing-urine-can-guide-treatment-childhood-kidney-tumors, reference 16 https://aacrjournals.org/clincancerres/article/29/5/878/716604/Targeting-MET-and-FGFR-in-Relapsed-or-Refractory, reference 17 https://aacrjournals.org/bloodcancerdiscov/article/2/5/434/665843/Inhibition-of-MET-Signaling-with-Ficlatuzumab-in, reference 20 https://www.mskcc.org/news/research-uncovers-genetic-causes-aggressive-leukemia-children, and others listed. The page also includes primary sources for context and correct citations.
b) Criterion 2 because this person has received multiple prestigious awards, as referenced from reliable secondary sources in the Awards section, eg reference 35 https://psscra.org/winners/alex-kentsis-md-phd/ and others
c) Criterion 3 because this person has been elected as a member of selective academic societies, eg reference 33 https://data.the-asci.org/controllers/asci/DirectoryController.php?action=profile&entryId=501533 and others
d) Criterion 5 because this person is a Director of an academic Center, eg reference 3 https://www.mskcc.org/research-programs/developmental-oncology
Regarding conflict of interests, I attest that I am not being paid for this content, but I do know the subject personally, hence the ability to provide specific details.
Appreciate your help in optimizing this page and getting it published. Thanks! Neenotchka (talk) 14:00, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Neenotchka:
  • Regarding your comment "not sure what comment you are referring to that was deleted": On the Draft page, immediately above the draft article (which begins with the words "Alex Kentsis (born Oleg Emilievich Kentsis, 1975)..."), is a block of text, which begins with the word "Comment" in bold; and immediately above that is a pink box with text that begins "Submission declined on 15 October 2024 by Cabrils (talk)". This is the material you deleted.
  • Regarding conflict of interest: Your comment "Regarding conflict of interests, I attest that I am not being paid for this content, but I do know the subject personally, hence the ability to provide specific details." evidences you have a conflict of interest (as defined: WP:COI). Again, for the third time, you have a conflict of interest that you must declare on your Talk page (to see instructions on how to do this please click the link).
  • WP:NPROF:
(a) Criteria 1: Some of these may qualify, although many seem to be WP:ROTM.
(b) Criteria 2: Pershing Square Sohn Prize (2019) probably qualifies, although others seem unreferenced eg Young Investigator Award, Society for Pediatric Research (2018). Please check the links provide evidence of Kentsis receipt of each award stated.
(c) Criteria 3: Likely qualifies.
(d) Criteria 5: " Director of an academic Center" does not meet this criteria: "The person has held a distinguished professor appointment at a major institution of higher education and research, a named chair appointment that indicates a comparable level of achievement, or an equivalent position in countries where named chairs are uncommon."
Please address the issues raised above before re-submitting, and ping me here or on my Talk page and I'd be happy to reassess. Cabrils (talk) 00:50, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Re deletion, apologies again, but I don't know that I performed any deletion. Please revert, as needed.
Added COI template; please validate.
Response to comments:
a) WP:NPROF Criterion 1 is not WP:ROTM because these are all highly cited peer-reviewed publications in reputable academic journals. Virtually all other academic pages list the same. See Lydia W. S. Finley or Lydia W. S. Finley for example.
b) Criterion 2 qualifies because both Pershing Square Sohn Prize (2019) and St. Baldrick's Foundation Robert J. Arceci Innovation Award (2018) and Scholar Award, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (2019), among others are highly prestigious awards granted to select few individuals, as explicitly documented on the respective link pages.
c) Criterion 3 qualifies, as stated.
d) Criterion 5 qualifies because the Tow Center for Developmental Oncology is a singular academic entity, directed by Kentsis, analogous to other similar academic leadership positions across prominent institutions. Kentsis is the sole Director of the Tow Center for Developmental Oncology at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he is also a tenured Member at the Sloan Kettering Institute and tenured Professor at Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University. Please consult these pages for reference Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Weill Cornell Medicine.
@Cabrils appreciate your help in complying with Wikipedia policies, but at this point, it is clear that this page is fully compliant. If specific changes are needed, please provide constructive and specific suggestions. Thanks! Neenotchka (talk) 12:39, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Neenotchka, you need to create a User Page and then add the COI template to it, as per the instructions provided above. Please also see WP:UP.
Please ping me once that's completed and I'd be happy to reassess. Cabrils (talk) 21:55, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Cabrils, I have created a user page User:Neenotchka and added the COI declaration. Please confirm. Thanks. Neenotchka (talk) 22:20, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comments left by AfC reviewers

[edit]
  • Comment: Well done on creating the draft, and it may potentially meet the relevant requirements (including WP:GNG, WP:ANYBIO, WP:NPROF) but presently it is not clear that it does.
As you may know, Wikipedia's basic requirement for entry is that the subject is notable. Essentially subjects are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject. To properly create such a draft page, please see the articles ‘Your First Article’, ‘Referencing for Beginners’ and ‘Easier Referencing for Beginners’.
Please note that many of the references are not from sources that are considered reliable for establishing notability as defined. There are far too many references to articles written by Kentsis rather than about Kentsis.
Please note that many of the references are not formatted correctly (see Introduction to referencing with VisualEditor and Wikipedia’s Manual of Style for help).
Additionally, the draft tends to read too much like a CV, which Wikipedia is not.
Also, if you have any connection to the subject, including being paid, you have a conflict of interest that you must declare on your Talk page (to see instructions on how to do this please click the link).
Please familiarise yourself with these pages before amending the draft. If you feel you can meet these requirements, then please make the necessary amendments before resubmitting the page. It would help our volunteer reviewers by identifying, on the draft's talk page, the WP:THREE best sources that establish notability of the subject.
It would also be helpful if you could please identify with specificity, exactly which criteria you believe the page meets (eg "I think the page now meets WP:NPROF criteria #3, because XXXXX").
Once you have implemented these suggestions, you may also wish to leave a note for me on my talk page and I would be happy to reassess. As I said, I do think this draft has potential so please do persevere. Cabrils (talk) 02:40, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
