Univac references
[edit]You can find reference manuals for the UN IVAC 490 and 494 at http://bitsavers.org/pdf/univac/ -- Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz Username:Chatul (talk) 18:13, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for that, actually seen those before, tbh would be good to expand the UNIVAC 490 with at least paragraph explaining a bit about differences between base 490 and other members of series (491, 492 and 494)

- Does anybody have online reference manuals for the 1230 and 1232 for Draft:30-bit computing and AN/USQ-20? -- Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz Username:Chatul (talk) 12:53, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
- Various Military computer documentation here:
- Various documents can also be found on the VIP club of Minnesota site:

- Thanks. I believe that selected documents from http://www.bitsavers.org/pdf/univac/military/ should be cited in Draft:30-bit computing, AN/USQ-17, AN/USQ-20 and UNIVAC 490, and that https://vipclubmn.org/CP30bit.html, which Draft:30-bit computing already cites, should also be cited in AN/USQ-17, AN/USQ-20 and UNIVAC 490. -- Shmuel (Seymour J.) Draft rejection
[edit]So initial draft was rejected. Obviously need to broaden this out a bit. I think key areas that need further discussion are:
- Military usage
- FAA usage -- Univac provided system for Traffic control which lasted into the 1990's
- Usage by NASA with regards to Apollo mission.
- Perhaps mention that CDC 6600 series though a 60-bit machine used 30-bit instructions (as well as 15-bit instructions)
Dóeltenga (talk) 22:19, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
- The 6600 had 12- and 24-bit instructions on the peripheral processors (PPs) in addition to 15- and 30-bit instructions on the central processor (PPs). It had neither 30-bit addresses nor addressable 30-bit storage fields, so mentioning it here would be a stretch. -- Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz Username:Chatul (talk) 16:18, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
