Zakari Mohammed[1], born on (7 July 1970), is a Nigerian politician and media professional[2] from Kwara State.

He was elected to the 7th National Assembly, House of Representatives of Nigeria in 2011 and, served Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency.[3] He was reelected in 2015 to the 8th National Assembly[4], House of Representatives of Nigeria, and served the same constituency. [5]

In 2014, Zakari Mohammed was among the legislators who insisted that Nigeria's Former Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala must answer the 50 questions on the Nigerian economy presented to her by the House Committee on Finance.[6]

Education

Zakari holds an Executive Certificate on Leadership of the 21st Century from Harvard Kennedy School of Government, an M.Sc. in Criminology, and a B.Sc. in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Ilorin. He also has diplomas in Journalism from the International Institute of Journalism in Abuja[7] and in Civil Law from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria.

Professional Career

Zakari began his professional career as an Assistant Producer of Programmes at Kwara State Broadcasting Corporation, Radio Kwara[8] , from 1992 to 1997. He then became a Producer and Government House Correspondent at Kwara Television[9]until 2002, during which he also presented and produced various sports programs. In 2002, he resigned from Radio Kwara to pursue a political career. [10]

Public Service Career

His public service career includes roles such as Deputy Director of Media and Publicity for the Bukola Saraki Campaign Organisation, Board Member of Kwara United Football Club, and Special Assistant on Sports Matters to the Executive Governor of Kwara State. He served as Chairman of Kwara United Football Club, the NYSC Governing Board, and Kwara Football Academy, as well as the Disciplinary Committee on Fertilizer Diversion. He was the Honourable Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development and later for Energy in Kwara State. Zakari was a Member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency,[11] where he chaired the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs[12] and later the House Committee on Basic Education & Services and the House Committee on Oil Swap Contracts.[13]
