Yan Chai Hospital Wong Wha San Secondary School (abbreviation: YCHWWSSS) is a caput secondary school[1] in Hong Kong Sai Kung District, 8 Tong Chun Street, Tseung Kwan O. The school was established in 1999.
The motto of the school was "Serving the Community in the Spirit of Benevolence", and the vision of the school is to "provide our students with quality holistic education and to develop our students into the pillars of our country".[2]
There are the four main missions of the school; [2]
- We provide a diversified school-based curriculum to help our students to:
1. develop independent thinking and positive attitude;
2. master English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua) language proficiency;
3. acquire new information technology and a global perspective;
4. develop a sense of integrity, justice, patriotism and a commitment to serve the community.
History
[edit]The founding body of the school is Yan Chai Hospital, the school was the sixth secondary school that the institution founded. It lately received donation by late founder Mr. Wong Wha San in 1999, in memory of his contribution to the school. Yan Chai Hospital named their sixth secondary school as "Yan Chai Hospital Wong Wha San Secondary School". [3]
During the year 2000, Yan Chai Hospital Wong Wha San Secondary School had to temporarily merch with another secondary school founded by Tung Lin Kok Yuen as advance opening until the campus was fully constructed. [4]
In 2024, YCHWWSSS had established for 25 years, now the school have a total number of 6 forms (Form 1 to Form 6) comprising 24 classes. [5]
Structure of the school
[edit]The founding body -- Yan Chai Hospital Board, Yan Chai Hospital Education Committee are at the top of the organization chart, supervise and manage the school. And then the Incorporate Management Committee (IMC) supervise the School Principal. Under the School Principal, there are three Vice Principals (VP), one Vice Principal in charge Management and Organization and Non Teaching Staffs (NTS), another VP in-charge Student Support and School Ethos, the remaining VP in-charge Learning and Teaching, Student Performance and Teaching Staffs. School Campus

The school was devoted in green campus development, the school claimed and believe that "a stylish garden with fragrant flowers and singing birds, providing students with a comfortable learning environment." [7]
Green plants mainly surround the campus. The words “YCHWWSSS” are made of grass and various statues are placed at the school gate. The school has won the "Championship" award in the annual "Green Campus" competition of the Hong Kong Leisure and Cultural Services Department for several times. [8]
Healthy Pond
Another feature of the school's campus would be the "Healthy Pond". The pond was sponsored by the Parent-Teacher Association and is a traditional Tang Dynasty style garden. Professor Huang Baocai and Ms. Tsang Huiqiong, Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association, and other guests attended the 2005 founding ceremony. [9]
Facilities: Sport related Facilities
Yan Chai Hospital Wong Wha San Secondary School have several sport facilities that help students to improve students' physical health. For example, the school have a "Sport Center" that sponsored by the School Supervisor, Mr. Ben Wong, it was established in 2006. [10] Besides, like other schools in Hong Kong, WWS also have a covered playground and a basketball court (the school claimed it as a handball court), the school has been granted $924,200 from the Sir David Trench Fund for Recreation (Main Fund) to build the covered playground and the court. The School also have several academic related facilities to foster students' learning. For example, "English corner" to improve the English capability of students through innovative ways such as watch English movies, read English books, etc. [12]and "STEM Room" that "provides opportunities for students to apply subject knowledge learnt from different disciplines to daily lives through investigative approach and it improves students’ problem-solving skills"[13]
Courses and Curriculum
[edit]YCHWWSSS have two different sets of courses and curriculums for junior forms (Secondary 1 to 3) and senior forms (Secondary 4 to 6).
Junior Forms Courses and Curriculum
There are total of 17 subjects under the Junior Forms Curriculum, which are Chinese Language, Putonghua, English Language, Mathematics, Citizenship, Economics and Society, Integrated Science, Information and Communication Technology, Chinese History, History, Geographic, Music, Design and Technology, Home Economics, Visual Arts, Physical Education, Business, Accounting and Financial Studies (BAFS) and Health Management and Social Care (HMSC). Which BAFS and HMSC in Junior Form curriculum serve as New Senior Secondary curriculum (NSS) bridging courses, and in Form 3 Integrated Science will be divided into 3 parts which are Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Senior Forms Courses and Curriculum, (NSS Curriculum)
Each senior class will be divided into 4 classes, and the 4th class is considered a weaker class, and cannot choose 3 elective subjects, but only 2. Cores are required for all classes. Classes 1-3 all need to take elective courses A, B, and C, while class 4 only needs to take elective courses A and B. [15]
