Yılmaz Geyik (born 15 November 1976 in Elazığ, Türkiye) is a Turkish medical doctor specializing in aesthetic plastic and reconstructive surgery. He is the founder of, and chief of medicine at Helen Aesthetics Clinic, an aesthetic clinic based in Lara, Antalya, Türkiye; and specializing in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Yılmaz Geyik was born in Elazığ, Türkiye in November 1976 where he grew up and attended his elementary education. He pursued his higher education at Fırat University's Medical Faculty from 1994 to 2000 to become a doctor of medicine. He proceeded to Inönü University's graduate school in 2009 to further studies for his plastic and reconstructive surgery license until 2013. Between 2013 and 2014, the Turkish plastic surgeon completed his mandatory service at Bingöl State Hospital.[2]
Medical career
[edit]Geyik began his medical career in 2000 at 3rd Atatürk Mah Health Center where he spent one year as a general practitioner.
In the subsequent years, he moved in a series of medical centers working as a general practitioner; 2001–2002 at Emergency Health Services Station; 2002 to 2003 at Van Military Hospital in Van Province; 2003 to 2005 back to Emergency Health Services Station; 2005 to 2007 at Tunceli State Hospital. Between 2008 and 2013, Geyik worked at Inönü University's Plastic Surgery Department as a research assistant.
In 2013 he began practising as a specialist surgeon. In this position, the medic practised at Bingöl State Hospital from 2013 to 2014 and at Antalya Olimpos Private Hospital from 2014 to 2017.
From 2017 to present, he has been a plastic and reconstruction surgeon at his establishment, Helen Aesthetics Clinic, headquartered in Lara, Antalya, Türkiye.[3] At the hospital, he is Chief Surgeon, and has made major breakthroughs. In 2023, he gained widespread popularity after his reconstructive procedure on Shahid al-sheik, a girl who had been burned by glowing gasoline.[4] Geyik operated on Sheikh making her capable of closing her eyes, moving her neck, and eating comfortably.[5]
Research and select publications
[edit]Geyik's research focuses in the fields of aesthetic plastic and reconstructive surgery. His most notable work is Surgical modalities in gunshot wounds of the face, an article he co-authored with Cemal Firat and published in 2013 by Journal of Cranofacial Surgery. The article has since achieved over 2,000 reads on ResearchGate and at least 29 citations via Google Scholar.[6][7]
