Xing Shaolan (born November 24, 1938) is a modern Chinese painter known for his expertise in ink-and-wash landscapes and flower-and-bird sketches. He holds the courtesy name Lin'ting and is also known by the alias Loujiang Fisherman. Xing has worked under various studio names, including Gusongtang, Banzhuju, and Sangyuxuan.

A member of the Chinese Artists Association and recognized as a national first-class artist, he has made significant contributions to contemporary Chinese art. His ancestral home is in Rizhao, Shandong Province, and he has resided in Taicang, Jiangsu Province, for many years.

Xing Shaolan grew up in Taicang, an ancient city located in the south of the Yangtze River, known for its rich cultural heritage. In the 1950s, he studied flower painting under renowned painter Zhu Qizhan and later focused on landscape painting with the celebrated artist Song Wenzhi.

Xing has held numerous solo exhibitions in cities such as Shanghai, Shandong, Nanjing, Yunnan, and Suzhou, as well as internationally in Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore. His works have been selected for various national exhibitions and are included in the collections of notable institutions, including the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall and several memorial halls and art galleries. On December 19, 2015, the Xing Shaolan Art Museum in Liuhe Town officially opened to the public. The opening ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Chen Ruijun, the wife of painter Zhu Qizhan; Zhong Zhengshan, President of the Malaysian Chinese Cultural Association and a member of the China National Academy of Painting; Zhang Jiuhan, former Vice Chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; and Wang Jianfeng, Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee. Other municipal leaders present included Qiu Zhende, Chen Xuerong, Lu Yin, and Zhu Fenglan.

The Xing Shaolan Art Museum is located at 229 Beijie, Liuhe Ancient Town, covering an area of 980 square meters. This venue not only showcases Xing's impressive body of work but also stands as a significant cultural landmark, contributing to the appreciation of modern Chinese art. Its central location in Liuhe enhances its accessibility, making it an essential destination for art enthusiasts and a vital part of the community's cultural heritage. [3]

Works and Exhibitions

From April 28 to May 12, 2021, the Zhu Qizhan Art Museum in Shanghai hosted the exhibition "Continuous Succession of Families: Xing Shaolan’s Painting Exhibition." This exhibition was held to honor the 130th anniversary of the birth of renowned painter Zhu Qizhan. It showcased Xing Shaolan's works, reflecting his artistic lineage and contributions to contemporary Chinese painting while paying tribute to Zhu's influence on the art community.


From November 18, 2023, to January 14, 2024, the Taicang Art Museum hosted the exhibitions "Jiuzi Danqing - Xing Shaolan's Chinese Painting Exhibition," "Integration of the Past and Innovation - Xing Xifeng's Works Exhibition," and a joint exhibition featuring the works of father and son, Xing Shaolan and Xing Xifeng. The exhibitions showcased a variety of Xing Shaolan's works, including his renowned masterpiece, "Six Countries’ Wharf Trade Map." These events provided an opportunity to highlight the artistic contributions of both artists and their significance in contemporary Chinese painting. [4]
