In July 2024, Emerald Fennell announced she would next write and direct an adaptation of Wuthering Heights.[1] In September 2024, Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi were cast in lead roles with Robbie also producing.[2] In October, Netflix offered $150 million to acquire distribution rights. Fennell and Robbie were hesitant to accept because they wished to give the film a theatrical release and marketing campaign.[3] Ultimately, Warner Bros. Pictures won the bidding war for rights to the film despite its offer, at $80 million, being significantly lower than Netflix. They guaranteed to a theatrical release and a significant marketing commitment.[4][5] In November 2024, Hong Chau, Alison Oliver, and Shazad Latif joined the cast.[6] Filming is set to begin in the United Kingdom in January 2025.[7]
