Wang Guan (born September 1984[1][2]) is a journalist, TV host and author[3][4][5][6]. He is the host of Leaders Talk(高端访谈)[7]on China Central Television (CCTV) and the Hub with Wang Guan on China Global Television Network (CGTN)[8][9]. He was the network's chief U.S. correspondent based in Washington D.C from 2011 to 2019[3], where he has covered major events shaping and defining China-U.S. relations[10]. He is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader[11]. He is also a YLF Fellow with the National Committee on U.S. China Relations[12], and an Asia 21 Young Leader of the Asia Society[13]. He was once described by Henry Kissinger as a "thoughtful and detail-oriented" interviewer[14][15][6]. He has interviewed nearly a hundred world leaders, and is considerd by some as "one of the most influential bilingual Chinese journalists on international affairs".[3][4]
Education
[edit]Wang Guan graduated from Communication University of China in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in international journalism[16]. In 2017, he earned a Master of Arts in Global Policy from the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at the Johns Hopkins University[4].
Career
[edit]Since 2022, Wang Guan has been hosting Leaders Talk (高端访谈), a talk show featuring global leaders and heads of state[7], and the Hub with Wang Guan[9].
He has interviewed Russian President Vladimir Putin[17], former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger[18], Brazilian President Lula[19], late Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi[20], Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.[21], Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif[22], IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva[23], then U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry[24], and United Nations General Assembly President Dennis Francis[25].
In September 2021, he published his first book Manufacturing the China Narrative: How the West Got China Wrong and What China Can Do to Better Explain Itself.[26][5]
