Voltstorm is a British heavy metal band founded in 2019 in London, United Kingdom. Known for blending classic metal influences with a modern edge, the band's lineup includes John Prasec (vocals), Stefano Nurra (guitar), Ben Turner (bass guitar), and Ivo Yordanov (drums). They define themselves as "British Premium Riff Merchants," focusing on melodic riffs, intense energy, and socially conscious themes.
History
[edit]Voltstorm was formed in early 2019 with the goal of creating music inspired by bands such as Judas Priest, Helloween, and Iron Maiden, but with a sound that appeals to contemporary metal fans. Their debut EP, released in 2022, gained positive reviews and helped build their reputation within the UK metal scene.
In 2024, Voltstorm released their first full-length album, Break the Silence, which received critical acclaim. Powerplay Magazine awarded it a 10/10 score, calling it "an absolute screamer of an album" that effectively blends "muscle, melody, power, and depth." The album features singles like "Judas," "Destroyer," and "Black Cage."
Musical Style and Influences
[edit]Voltstorm's sound combines the heavy riffs and melodic elements of classic metal with progressive undertones.[1] Guitarist Stefano Nurra's playing has been noted for its mix of "poignant acoustical intros and interludes" and "fiery riffing," while John Prasec's vocals have been described as versatile and commanding.[2]
Notable Performances
[edit]In 2023, Voltstorm performed at the Pannonian [[Rock Festival] in Croatia,[3] sharing the stage with prominent acts such as Tarja Turunen and Rhapsody of Fire. The band has played numerous venues across the UK, steadily building a fanbase through their energetic live shows.
Discography
[edit]Reception
[edit]Powerplay Magazine praised Voltstorm's debut album as "a mature and enthusiastic" release, delivered with skill and passion. Rock N' Load Magazine described the band as "a modern band with an old-school soul."
