Volidayi Abdulazizhon Madrasa is a madrasa located in the city of Bukhara in Uzbekistan. The time of construction of the madrasa is XV-XVII centuries. The history of creation of Volidayi Abdulazizhon Madrasa is connected with the name of Abdulazizhon (1647-1680),[1] who also created another madrasa in Bukhara - Abdulazizhon Madrasa, which became his own higher school.[2] According to Abzulazizhon's plan, Abdulazizhon Madrasa was to surpass everything that had been created by craftsmen and decorators in earlier times.[3]
In XVIII-XIX centuries the madrasa of Volidayi Abdulazizhon was a part of Bukhara education system and was used as a school. At present, the madrasa building is an architectural monument and belongs to the World Heritage Site.
Description
[edit]The madrasa is located in the southwestern part of the city, in a park area at the intersection of Djuibor and Muhammad Iqbol streets. Another madrasa, Joybori Kalon Madrasah, is located nearby. According to legend, Joybori Kalon Madrasah was built by Oy-Posho-Bibi, the blind daughter of Juybar Īshān Hoja Kalon. In front of the madrasa is a howz - Hauzi-nau, which has a bad reputation.[4]
The madrasa building is made of brick, has several entrances and is surrounded by an iwan. The columns of the iwan are made of wood and decorated with figurative carvings. To support the structure, the columns are reinforced on a concrete foundation. At the corners of the Volidayi Abdulazizhon Madrasa are buildings equipped with observation towers.
The Volidayi Abdulazizhon Madrasa is a two-storey building. The ground floor is the main floor, where most of the rooms for classes are located. The first floor is a superstructure, which includes a tower framed by a beautiful blue dome and an arch.
