The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) is a semiautonomous agency of the Government of the Virgin Islands. It is responsible for the distribution of power generation and drinking water in the territory.[1]
Background
[edit]In 1964, WAPA was created by the Fifth Legislature of the Virgin Islands through Act No. 1248.
Outages
[edit]In July 2007, an explosion at the plant caused four intern students to sustain non-life threatening injuries and a district-wide power outage across St. Thomas and St. John.[2]
As a result of an oil leak at the plant led to one of its workhorse generator going offline which caused all-day power disruptions in St. Thomas-St. John district.
