The Vaughan Portrait is a portrait painted by Gilbert Stuart in 1795. It depicts the 63 year old George Washington halfway through his 2nd term as president.[1]
The portrait was named after Samuel Vaughan, an American merchant living in London who was the recipient for the original painting. Gilbert Stuart made 12-16 copies of the painting who eventually abandoned the project to work on other portraits of George Washington.
