Dr. Varun Verma (born July 9, 1974) is a renowned Indian nephrologist and Associate Director of Nephrology and Renal Transplant at Max Hospital Patparganj, Delhi.[1] With over 25 years of experience in nephrology, internal medicine, and general medicine, Dr. Verma has made significant contributions to the field of nephrology, particularly in hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and critical care nephrology. He has been involved in over 1000 renal transplants and is known for managing complex cases, including ABO-incompatible transplants and cross-match positive transplants.[2] His academic achievements include numerous publications in national and international journals, and he is actively involved in teaching and mentoring future nephrologists.
Education and Career
[edit]Dr. Varun Verma was born on July 9, 1974, in India. He completed his MBBS from Sarojini Naidu Medical College, Agra, Uttar Pradesh in 1998, followed by an MD in Medicine from the same institution in 2003.[3] During his training, Dr. Verma rotated through various departments within the Department of Medicine, including the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Emergency Department, Outpatient Clinics, Critical Care Unit (CCU), and Cardiology, Nephrology and Dialysis, and Neurology. Dr. Verma also holds a Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in Nephrology and has completed a Clinical Fellowship in Nephrology and Hypertension from Ottawa General Hospital, Canada.[4] He passed the IELTS General Training exam in September 2018 with an overall band score of 8.
Dr. Verma began his career as a Senior Resident in Internal Medicine at the University College of Medical Sciences and Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in New Delhi. He later joined Indraprastha Apollo Hospital as a DNB Fellow in Nephrology.From 2012 to 2019, Dr. Verma served as a Consultant Nephrologist and Transplant Physician at Fortis Hospital Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Since then, he has been the Associate Director of Nephrology and Renal Transplant at Max Hospital Patparganj. He also practices at Prayag Hospital in Sector 41, Noida.
Dr. Verma's clinical expertise includes hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and critical care nephrology. He is proficient in various vascular access procedures and has been involved in over 1000 renal transplants, including managing complex cases such as ABO-incompatible transplants and cross-match-positive transplants. Additionally, he provides treatment for conditions like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Type 2 Diabetes, Typhoid Fever, Rheumatic Heart Disease, and Chickenpox.[5]
In 2021, Dr. Verma was designated a certified hypertension specialist by the American Hypertension Specialist Certification Program.

He began with a 3-year MD residency in nephrology, followed by 2 years and 9 months as a senior resident in the same specialty. Dr. Verma then served as a senior registrar in DNB nephrology at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Delhi, for 3 years. Following this, he worked as a research fellow in nephrology for 1 year, gaining further expertise in the field. Subsequently, he held the position of clinical associate nephrologist for 2 years before advancing to the role of consultant nephrologist, a position he held for 7 years. Most recently, Dr. Verma served as a clinical fellow in nephrology from December 2019 until July 31, 2021.[7][8]
