Jairus Malik Smith (born May 7, 1997), known professionally as VINCI XO (f.k.a. DaVinci Kitsune) is an American rapper, singer/songwriter, and producer from Greenville, South Carolina. He began self-releasing music in 2014 while in high school and gained a local, underground following with his debut mixtape "Red Nirvana" which released in 2015. After gaining a larger following in cities like Atlanta, Columbia, and Charlotte he signed to Stuface Intl., a small independent record label ran be his childhood friend and fellow artist, Christopher Cleveland (professionally know as Masuta).

Early life

Jairus Malik Smith was born on May 7, 1997 in Greenville, South Carolina, the youngest of three children to an absent Nigerian father and an African-American mother, also a singer, who introduced him to Gospel and R&B music as a child. He attended and went on to graduate from Southside High School where his music career began.

Career

2014-2019: Career beginnings and Red Nirvana mixtape

Vinci started rapping when he was in 2014 while still in high school and released his first mixtape, Red Nirvana (2015), when he was a sophomore at Southside High School. After graduating from high school in 2017 he began focusing on his music career and in 2019 he released his single, N.A.S.A on SoundCloud where it gained over 100,000 streams before releasing it on major streaming platforms.

2020-2021: Contact and Summer of Love

The single "Contact" was released in 2020 and gained prominence when it was played on a local radio station in Atlanta. It was the lead single for XO's second mixtape, Summer of Love, which released the following year. Summer of Love released in 2021 and was immediately met with success it gained over 10,000 streams across streaming platforms and earned Vinci an award nomination for Best Solo Artist at the 2020-2021 Upstate Music Awards.

2022: Bleuphoria and national success

In April 2022, Vinci released a new single, LIVE FROM THE 8 alongside his debut album, Bleuphoria (June 2022). These releases earned him national recognition and earned Smith three more award nominations at the 2021-2022 Upstate Music Awards for Best Album Artwork/Visual Design and Best Collaboration (twice) respectively. Bleuphoria is VINCI XO's most successful release to date, earning him national recognition, two UMA nominations, and over 650,000 streams across streaming platforms since it's release.

2023-present: HIS NAME IS...

In 2023 VINCI XO was nominated for Best Album Artwork/Visual Design and Best Collaboration at the 2022-2023 Upstate Music Awards. In September 2024 he released his long awaited EP, HIS NAME IS... in anticipation of his second album. He also released a visualizer for his single, Break From Love.

VINCI XO's biggest musical influences include T-Pain, Drake, The Weeknd, Bryson Tiller, Frank Ocean, Kanye West, Eminem, Chris Brown, Gorillaz, and Robin Thicke.

VINCI XO has been nominated four times at the Upstate Music Awards, Best Solo Artist, Best Collaboration (twice), and Best Album Artwork/Visual Design losing out to other artists all four times and three years in a row.

Personal life

In 2017 Smith was arrested in Greenville, South Carolina for assault & battery. He was found guilty but served no jail time. At age 25, Vinci welcomed his daughter into the world while working as a forklift operator. In 2023, Smith was arrested in Buckeye, Arizona for disorderly conduct (fighting) when officers responded to a domestic dispute where he was accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and destroying property. He was later found innocent in a court of law and all charges were dismissed with no jail time served.
