VIDAA is a Linux-based smart TV operating system[1] developed by VIDAA USA, Inc., a subsidiary of Hisense. Introduced in 2014, VIDAA is designed to provide an integrated platform for accessing multimedia content, including streaming services, live TV, and applications, on smart televisions.

As of 2023, VIDAA runs on over 30 million connected devices worldwide and is the fastest-growing smart TV platform.[2] In 2024, VIDAA was the second most installed smart TV operating system behind Tizen.[3]

Overview

[edit]

VIDAA is implemented on a range of smart TVs produced by manufacturers such as Hisense,[4] Toshiba,[5] and Loewe.[6] The operating system is able to aggregate content from various sources, allowing users to access different services from a unified platform.[7]

History

[edit]

VIDAA was first launched in 2014 as part of Hisense's smart TV lineup.[8] In 2016, an updated version called VIDAA U was released, focusing on improved performance and a more customizable interface. Subsequent updates have added features such as voice control, faster navigation, and support for additional applications. In 2019, Hisense established a separate company responsible for the development of VIDAA:[8] VIDAA USA, which is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.[9]

Partners

[edit]

VIDAA's partners include over 400 content providers,[10] including services such as Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+,[11] Viaplay,[12] Crunchyroll,[13] and regional platforms.

In addition, VIDAA offers native integration with technologies such as Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and DTS audio.[citation needed]
