An untitled Pink Panther film is in development for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It is the twelfth film in The Pink Panther franchise created by Blake Edwards. Eddie Murphy is being considered to portray the newest incarnation of Inspector Jacques Clouseau.
Production
[edit]In 2014, MGM announced that it would reboot the Pink Panther film series. Unlike the previous films, which all focused on the bumbling Inspector Clouseau, the film was revealed to be a live-action/CGI hybrid film focused on the titular cartoon character. Julie Andrews, the widow of Pink Panther director Blake Edwards, was announced to be producing and David Silverman, known for his work on The Simpsons was announced to be the director.[1][2][3]
The project went silent very quickly. In November 2020, the film was re-announced and revealed to follow both the Pink Panther and Inspector Clouseau.[4] Sonic the Hedgehog director Jeff Fowler was announced to be directing from a screenplay penned by Chris Bremner.
After Amazon acquired Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, it looked at properties held by MGM that could have new installments developed. MGM announced that the film was part of this new initiative and that Eddie Murphy had been eyed for the part of Inspector Clouseau. The project is produced by Dan Lin, Julie Andrews, Larry Mirisch, and Jonathan Eirich.[5]
