On October 31, 2024, it was announced that Universal Pictures was developing several new live-action films based on Lego construction toys[1][2], with one of them being based on the Ninjago toyline, which had previously been adapted into the 2017 animated film The Lego Ninjago Movie[3]. Dan and Kevin Hageman, the original writers for the animated Ninjago television series and co-writers of the 2017 film were announced to be penning the script. Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christian were attached to produce the film for The Lego Group.[3]
