History
[edit]In 2023, the movement's leader, Vato Shakarishvili, founded another ideologically similar movement called Conservative Portal - Georgia First.[4]
The movement was officially founded on 10 July 2024 during a conference held at the Sheraton Metechi Hotel in Tbilisi. At its inaugural conference, its members stated they planned to transform the movement into a fully-fledged political party within a year.[5]
Ideology
[edit]The movement explicitly opposes Georgia's integration into the European Union, stating that the EU has politically and economically stagnated since 2008 and that accession would therefore not be beneficial for Georgia. Its members have also made the case against EU accession by espousing anti-immigration and anti-LGBT views, and by suggesting that Georgia would have to "informally" sacrifice all of its sovereignty by becoming a member state.[5]
Regarding foreign policy, it expresses strong scepticism of the West's role in international affairs, accusing the EU and the United States of undermining democracy and driving regime change overseas using their support for Venezuelan opposition figure Juan Guaido as an example.[6]
