The Union of Brigades is a Spanish civil association registered in the National Registry of Associations (RNA) of the Ministry of the Interior, in accordance with article 22 of the Spanish Constitution of 1978 and current legal regulations.
The Union of Brigades is an association that defends constitutional values and the European Union, using the mechanisms of the Rule of Law.
As its main activity, the organization is dedicated to the "cleaning" of public spaces of illegal pro-independence electoral propaganda.
Currently its spokesperson is David Cosculluela.[1]
History
[edit]The association was born in response to the rise of Catalan independence and the accusations made against people not aligned with it by groups linked to the Generalitat of Catalonia. They also work to guarantee institutional neutrality in public spaces.
Based on the premise that every public institution, in accordance with art. 103 of the Spanish Constitution, which establishes that said institutions must objectively serve the general interests of efficiency and hierarchy subject to the Law and the current legal system and the law, the organization works together with other associations and professionals, so that public institutions are impartial. For this reason, it defends institutional neutrality[4], both within and outside the electoral period.
Union of brigades carries out;
• Campaigns to clean up public spaces by removing banners and posters with insults, discriminatory, anti-Hispanic and unconstitutional messages, and pointing fingers at Spanish people and institutions.
• Report of murals and graffiti on school walls, bridges, vacant lots, and on the asphalt of roads, with all kinds of separatist and totalitarian messages and Hispanophobic insults.
