Giir Thiik Bol, professionally known as Tylerbrizyy, is a South Sudanese rapper, singer, songwriter, dancer, and record producer. He was born on May 14, 2003, in Juba, South Sudan. Tylerbrizyy began singing and rapping at the age of twelve in 2015, drawing inspiration from artists such as Chris Brown, Travis Scott, and his cousin BOKA.[1] He decided to pursue a career in music after realizing his talent for singing and rapping. Tylerbrizyy gained widespread recognition with his debut single, Soul, featuring South African rapper Jr Swiss. The song reached the #2 position on the Uganda Top 100 iTunes Chart, marking his rise to fame.
Early Life
[edit]Giir Thiik Bol, known by his stage name Tylerbrizyy, was born on May 14, 2003, in Lietnhom, Warrap State, located in the Bahr el Ghazal region of South Sudan.[2] He was named after his great-grandfather, Giirdit. When Tylerbrizyy was eleven, his parents divorced, and he moved in with his mother, sisters, and uncle. Three years later, his parents reconciled and decided to reunite as a family. In 2015, Tylerbrizyy was introduced to music production by his cousin, who was also a singer. This exposure sparked his interest in creating music, which he began pursuing alongside his cousin and step-brother. Lacking professional studio equipment, Tylerbrizyy used a pair of earphones and his step-brother’s laptop, which had MixPad—a multitrack recording software developed by NCH Software—for recording and mastering his early music.
Career
[edit]Tylerbrizyy’s music career began in earnest in 2017, when he moved with his family to Kampala, Uganda, to continue his education. While managing his school commitments, Tylerbrizyy quietly worked on his music, with only his step-brother, Mou Thiik Bol, aware of his musical pursuits and talent. His first song, Fame, was a collaboration with his friend Yb Uzi, created while they were still in primary (middle) school. Due to limited financial resources, Tylerbrizyy could not afford professional studio time; instead, he relied on YouTube tutorials to learn how to use digital audio workstations (DAWs). He downloaded music software and recorded songs using only earphones, though these early recordings were never publicly released. In 2018, Tylerbrizyy discovered music distribution through online tutorials and subsequently released Fame on various music platforms, receiving positive feedback from friends who encouraged him to continue. Despite the challenges he faced since 2014, Tylerbrizyy developed his skills and became known for his music, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2019. His self-produced debut album, Tylerbrizyy, featured collaborations with South African singer and rapper Swiss Jr and South Sudanese rapper M-Korn Chopper The album included 18 tracks, with four songs Soul, Drip,I Will Manage, and Fame gaining widespread popularity and marking his first major successes. In 2024, Tylerbrizyy released his second studio album, 12 Lives on My Back, a 9-track solo project with no featured artists. The album proved to be another success, with seven songs Drip-Extended Version, Jump in the Wave, Summer, Town Dreams, Demon Mode, Night Times Am High, and No Way gaining popularity and solidifying his position in the music industry.
