[edit]On June 23, 2021, it was reported that Walt Disney Pictures was developing a new film based on the attraction, with Scarlett Johansson starring and producing the project through her production company, These Pictures, alongside Jonathan Lia, while Josh Cooley will write the script.[1] The Hollywood Reporter indicated that it was unclear whether Johansson was set to star in the film.[2]
In July 2021, Johansson filed a lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleging a stipulation in her contract was breached as a result of the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Black Widow, in which she starred and executive-produced, being released on Disney+ Premier Access in addition to a theatrical release.[3] The lawsuit stated that the film's release exempted Disney from paying "very large box office bonuses" Johansson would have reportedly been entitled to.[4] Outlets such as Variety noted that the lawsuit could potentially limit the actress’s willingness to collaborate on future Disney movies, including Tower of Terror.[5] In September 2021, Johansson and Disney settled, with both parties revealing that the film is still moving forward.[6]
