Gorilla Tag is a virtual reality Massively multiplayer online game where players use two hands as legs to move throughout the different maps and game-modes. Gorilla Tag has over 10 million players globally[1] and is available on most, commercially available Virtual Reality Headsets such as: the Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3 and Valve Index, but primarily played on Meta Quests and on SteamVR.[2]
Success
[edit]Gorilla tag has reached over 10 million players globally and has amassed over 100 million dollars in profit.[1][3] There are many possible reasons for this unprecedented success[4] is the many game-modes available such as: 'Infection', 'Hunt' and 'Paintbrawl'.[2]
Gorilla Tag has a huge social media presence, with the game amassing over 4.4 billion views across TikTok alone,[5] and billions more on YouTube. Some influential creators are large parts of Gorilla Tag's image, including: Jmancurly, VMT, AlecVR, JuanGTAG, RtinyVR and Rjtheshade.[6][7]
There is also large Gorilla Tag Wiki, which helps with Gorilla Tag's accessibility.
Game-play
[edit]The innovative movement system is a large part of the game's reputation. The player moves around with their controllers acting as arms and legs simultaneously.[8] The physical nature of the game has been documented to help with fitness in adults.[9]
