The Man Creator of Energy (El hombre Creador de Energía) is a bronze and concrete sculpture, standing 18 meters tall, created by the Colombian sculptor Rodrigo Arenas Betancourt. The sculpture has been installed since 1968 on the south side of the Central Square of the University City of Antioquia, in front of the University Museum of the University of Antioquia. The sculpture depicts a man and a woman at the top of a concrete flower with their arms and hands extended upwards, symbolizing "the new man, navigator of tomorrow, facing the sun, towards the cosmic paths, amidst explosions, cataclysms, and sidereal darkness."[2]
The work was inaugurated alongside the campus, as well as the Prometheus-Christ Falling located in the administrative block and the mural Man Before the Great Discoveries of Nature by Pedro Nel Gómez on the north side of the library.[3]
While completing The Man Creator of Energy, Arenas Betancourt began the construction of the Lancers of the Vargas Swamp, located in Paipa, considered one of his pinnacle works.[2]
