The Kevin Files Trilogy is a series of two mystery short films created by Kevin Star Productions and uploaded on the 'hi there' channel on YouTube. It consists of 'The Kevin Files' and 'The Kevin Files Part II: The Kevinator'. The latter was also accompanied by a behind-the-scenes video featuring outtakes from the second instalment. The series was well received by fans, with some however criticising episode two for its slightly shorter runtime and more confusing plotline.
Premise
[edit]The 'Kevin Files' series depicts the actions of a fairly vast array of characters in the fictional location of 'Kevinland'. The place appears to have discovered the concept of employment, with news reporters, CEO's and policemen being depicted throughout, among others. It has a small assumed population and a small assumed land size. The laws of physics are fully adhered to at almost all times during the series. Government and it's corruption is a strongly discussed theme present within particularly the second instalment, as the character of Mayor Jeff hypocritically calls out murder while admitting to the action himself. Themes also present throughout include: company corruption and exploitation of customers, racism within the church, etcetera. The series also contains elements of humour, with Policeman Jeff's untoward laughter in serious moments help to freshen the mood and allow the viewer to enjoy the series with added relaxation. A third instalment, entitled 'The Kevin Files Part III: The Kevend-Hell Is A Place For Kevin', was written and the shooting began before being abandoned due to time constraints.

Production
[edit]Writing
[edit]The first instalment was written primarily by Robert Johnson in a single afternoon. After being tweaked in the presence and using the full input of the rest of the production crew, it was used in it's entirety for the actual product. The second instalment was written by Hammond and O'Neill at least partially on a bus over a fairly short period of time. However, zero dialogue or actor directions were written. Instead, it was entirely improvised, with some scenes changing drastically between different takes.
Filming
[edit]Both were filmed on-location in a place near to some scientific facilities the actors actually dubbed 'Kevinland'. Almost exclusively filmed on Johnson's mobile phone, some fans were quick to point out that the audio quality was not ideal. Filming for each took approximately three to four week. A break was taken during the filming of the second part as the cast and crew struggled to balance filming with other, more mundane tasks.
Post-Production
[edit]The entire series was edited in it's entirety by Theodore Lotherington, who took approximately a week to complete each installment. The soundtrack for part 2 was written and produced by Benjamin Greening, while part 1's soundtrack was found on a copyright-free music library. The first installment features the song 'Ho Ho Homeless' by The Kevin Band while the second instalment features 'Shine Kevin Shine' by the same artist.[1]
