The Meerut Cantonment is an area within the city of Meerut which was originally established as a military cantonment by the East India Company in 1803 after the Battle Of Laswari [1]

On 10th May 2024 a mob lead by Kotwal Dhan Singh Gurjar composed of the local Gurjar population numbering thousands attacked the Cantonment entering from the Quarters and looting and burning ensured. The mob burned down Sapper and Miners lines near the Artillery lines in the cantonment, due to the fire an European constable named Sergeant Law and his eldest daughter died of burns. The rest of the European civilians were left alone by the rioters[2]
