Synopsis

[edit]

The biggest fan of The Amazing World of Gumball finds the show's missing episode and opens a portal to Gumball's cartoon world. He teams up with Gumball and his family (Darwin, Anais, Richard, and Nicole) to save Elmore from a nefarious menace looking to overtake the town.[1]

In October 2015, The Amazing World of Gumball creator Ben Bocquelet said he was interested in creating a film based on the series.[2] In the following years, Bocquelet would go on to say that he doubted a film would be made due to his departure in 2016, but that he had planned two drafts for potential direct-to-video and theatrical films for the show.[3][4] In October 2018, Cartoon Network said a screenplay for a movie based on the series was being written.[5] Following the series finale of The Amazing World of Gumball, and the mixed reviews it received from fans, Bocquelet said that he would create a film to resolve its cliffhanger. The film was officially announced on February 17, 2021,[6] and was greenlit as The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie! by HBO Max and Cartoon Network on September 21, 2021.[7] In August 2022, HBO Max said it no longer planned on releasing the film.[8] Nothing was heard about the movie until almost ten months later when, at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Ben Boqcuelet was asked about the movie during a Q&A session. He confirmed that the movie is still being worked on, with the story and script currently being revised.[9]
