Susi Meret (born 4th of August 1971 in Udine, Italy) is an Associate Professor at Aalborg University, in Denmark, specializing in the study of Populism, and the Radical Right at the Department of Politics and Society.^[1]

Education and career

Susi Meret was born on August 4, 1971, in Udine, Italy. Meret studied History and Human Geography at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, in 1993. She obtained her MA in History from the University of Venice, Italy, in 1999. She earned her Ph.D. in Social Sciences from Aalborg University, Denmark, in 2010.

Meret has been an Assistant Professor in Ethnic Relations and Comparative Migration Politics from 2010 until 2014. Prior to this, she was a Research Assistant at the same university from 2009 to 2010.^[2]^[3]

Academic Contributions

Meret's research interests include issues of inclusion and exclusion, populism, democratic deficits, political extremisms, and anti-gender and anti-feminist movements. She has conducted research on right-wing populism in Denmark, Italy, and Austria, and examined mainstream parties' counter-strategies at both national and EU levels. Her work also explores the role of Islam in the West and the broader civil society responses to anti-immigration anti-gender and anti-feminist movements and populist ethnic nationalism.^[4]^[5]

Research and publications

She has been involved in several national and international research projects, as for instance the Nordic Populism network (NOPO), the European RAGE project, studying hate speech and populist Othering, and the multi-year Brookings project ”The One Percent Problem: Muslims in the West and the Rise of the New Populists”. Her more recent international research projects include: the NordForsk founded SEPOS: Social exclusion, polarization and security in the Nordic welfare state, and the European Horizon project FIERCE: Feminist Movements Revitalizing Democracy in Europe.^[6]^[5]^[7]^[8]
