Susana Fankhauser-Pérez de Léon (born October 21, 1947) is a Mexican-Swiss psychologist specializing in the integration of immigrants into Swiss society. She has worked as a community interpreter, provided training for female teachers, and served on various committees, including the Education and Migration Committee of the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education.
In civil society, she has been a delegate of the Forum for the Integration of Migrants and led projects such as Living Together in Switzerland, which offers language and further education courses for foreign pupils. She also founded a contact point to support and advise Mexicans and Latin Americans in Switzerland.[1] In 2011, Fankhauser-Pérez de Léon was awarded the Dr. Jacques Edwin Brandenberger Foundation prize in recognition of her contributions to integration efforts.[2]
Biography
[edit]Susana Fankhauser-Pérez de Léon was born on 21 October 1947 in Toluca, Mexico. She pursued her studies in psychology and career counselling at the University of Mexico City and the Institut national d'étude du travail et d'orientation professionnelle in Paris.[2] Having completed her studies in psychology in Mexico City and Paris, she subsequently relocated to Switzerland, marking the beginning of her engagement with the subject of integration in Swiss society.
On a professional level, Susana Fankhauser-Pérez de Léon worked as a community interpreter and conducted continuing education seminars for teachers in the canton of Berne. She served on various committees, including the Education and Migration Committee of the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education and the City of Bern's School Committee for Small Classes.[2] Beyond her professional work, she has been active in civil society, leading projects such as the "Social Network for Mexicans and Americans in Switzerland" and "Living Together in Switzerland," and serving as a Delegate of the "Forum for the Integration of Migrants." She also supervised the "Integration of Foreign-Language Pupils" project.[2]
