Stanwix Greenville Mayfield was a plantation owner and state senator in South Carolina. He sold land for an industrial school for African Americans.[1][2] He was a Democrat.

He was born in Polk County, Tennessee. He lived in Denmark, South Carolina.


He graduated from Furman University in 1884. He was admitted to the bar in May 1887. In 1892 he was elected state senator from Barnwell County. He served for six years until Bamberg County was established. He represented that county until 1904. He chaired the judicial committee and was involved in passing a school law.

He was a Baptist and belonged to the Knights of Pythias, and Knights of Honor fraternal orders.

He married and had children including Stanwix Mayfield Jr., a naval officer.[3][4] He also had a grandson named after him.[5]
